Conservatory students and teachers Song of Ceuta will celebrate, according to tradition, Santa Cecilia whose date is November 22nd. A reminder of the patron of music that takes place in the vast majority of music schools and conservatories in the world and which, in the autonomous city, will start at 4pm with different activities.
As reported by the center’s management, by Javier Bernal, a specially chosen musical documentary will be screened on that occasion to continue the work of raising students’ musical awareness. Then, at 17:00, a round table will be held to discuss the theme ‘The woman in music’.
“This activity was proposed by the Center’s Equality Commission, also taking advantage of the proximity of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, which is remembered on November 25th”, specifies the Conservatory.
Present as prominent women in the musical field of Ceuta, Amadora Mercado Pérez, director of the Battalion Unit of the Headquarters of the Ceuta Command; Elsa Rovayo, (La Shica), pop singer trained in flamenco, Spanish dance and classical ballet, from Ceuta; Mónica Martos Fernández, professor of Harmony and Composition, owner of the square of harmony, foundations of composition and analysis of the Ceuta Conservatory; and Celia García Rivera, director of the “Andrés del Río” Choral Association of Ceuta.
“Finally, there will be a concert offered by our students, which will take place at the Teatro Auditorio del Revellín at 8pm on the same day, November 21,” indicated the management.
The celebration takes place a day earlier because November 22, precisely on the occasion of the patron saint, is a celebration in the center and lessons are not held.
“We consider it a good opportunity to make citizens aware of the figure of women in music and what better time than to take advantage of this celebration in honor of Santa Cecilia”, conclude the conservatory.
