One of the participants in a Norgescup in windsurfing was hit by a speedboat during the event.
The Norwegian Cup in several classes in windsurfing was held at Torkildstranda in Drøbak on Sunday.
The speedboat “Baronen” collided with one of the sailors. It runs a fixed route B21 between Filtvet, Drøbak and Aker Brygge as
VG’s reporter, Karin Muri, witnessed the incident. The route boat came north while the fjord was full of windsurfers. It drove through the field at high speed and hit one of the athletes. Other witnesses also tell VG this.
After the boat collided with one of the athletes, it slowed down without stopping. An accompanying boat came to the scene and picked up the athlete.
The police are on the scene
All activity at the competition has stopped, says Muri.
– I can confirm that there has been a collision between a ferry and a windsurfer. The reason for what happened and who is to blame I cannot say, it is too early, says operations manager Finn Håvard Aas at the East police district.
The person must be awake and aware, it is unclear whether the athlete was injured in the collision. East police district was not aware that a sports event was taking place.
– It may have been reported to the local police, but we were not aware of that. This has just happened and we are trying to get an overview. We also need to speak to both parties before we can conclude what has happened. says Aas.
The use of the beach for the competition must have been planned in collaboration with the municipality, according to the Drøbaksund Sailing Association’s website. The organizer is busy dealing with the incident and has not been able to answer VG’s questions.
Ruter: – Investigates what has happened
The fast boat runs on a mission from Ruter.
– We are investigating what happened. The captain has explained his version of the incident to Norled, which is the operator on the route. There are different versions of what happened here. We are investigating it, while dealing with the police and the authorities on the spot, says spokesperson Øystein Dahl Johansen in Ruter.
– Witnesses have described that the boat maintained a high speed through the field before the collision?
– We don’t know anything about that. There are fairly clear rules for how to travel on the sea, and I assume that those who worked for Norled follow that. Then we have to investigate it afterwards, says Johansen.
