Collins Aerospace Achieves Important Milestone with Spacesuit Testing for Space Station – NASA Collaboration

JAKARTA – Collins Aerospace, a supplier of aerospace products, has achieved an important milestone. Some time ago, the company tested spacesuits for the space station.

This spacesuit was designed by the United States Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), but its development was carried out by Collins. After the development process is complete, this device will be used on the International Space Station (ISS).

NASA did not mention a test date. They only say that this test was conducted aboard a commercial weightless microgravity aircraft. During the testing, Collins tested the fit and functionality of the garments.

“The pilot created weightlessness for about 20 seconds by performing a series of maneuvers such as roller coaster. “This allows engineers, scientists and students to test hardware and conduct scientific experiments in a gravitational environment like outer space without having to go into outer space,” explained NASA via the official website.

According to NASA, this initial testing is a very important stage. The reason is, Collins will ensure that the design NASA creates meets all system requirements. This needs to be ensured so that the clothes are safe to use.

These suits will continue to be tested in a vacuum chamber, a chamber designed to be similar to the atmosphere of outer space, to simulate gravity. In addition, the suit will also be tested in a 40-foot deep pool at NASA’s Johnson Space Center.

The plan is that this spacesuit will be used by astronauts for more than two decades. This suit is also designed to enhance space exploration capabilities in Low Earth Orbit (LEO).

“It is being developed to support station maintenance and operations as NASA and its international partners continue to conduct scientific research that benefits humanity and demonstrates new technologies for future human and robotic missions,” NASA concluded.
