Motorcycle racer Collin Veijer won the Malaysian Grand Prix in the Moto3 on Sunday morning. For the eighteen-year-old Staphorster from the Liqui Moly Husqvarna team, it is his very first victory in his debut year.
Veijer had qualified second at the Sepang circuit behind Spaniard Jaume Masia. He finished third in the race. Veijer’s Japanese teammate, Ayumu Sasaki, came second
The young driver is the first Dutch winner of a Grand Prix since Hans Spaan. He won the GP of what was then called Czechoslovakia in 1990 in the 125cc in Brno. That was 33 years ago.
“I feel great at the moment, but also very tired,” was Veijer’s first reaction. “At one point I had to attack my teammate, otherwise I would have been passed too.”
