Collin Veijer took pole position for a Moto3 race for the second time in his young career on Saturday. In Valencia, the eighteen-year-old Dutchman set the fastest time in qualifying.
Veijer recorded a time of 1.38.311 on the Circuit Ricardo Tormo in the third part of qualifying. This made him 0.048 seconds faster than teammate Ayumu Sasaki.
It is the Dutchman’s second pole position in his debut season in Moto3. In August he was the fastest in qualifying for the race in Austria. He thus became the first Dutchman to start on pole since Jurgen van den Goorbergh in 1999.
Veijer failed to convert his pole into a victory in August. He finished the race in Austria in fourth. He did pull off a stunt two weeks ago by taking his first victory in Malaysia. Then he started from second place.
The race in Valencia starts on Sunday at 11am. At the same place, Italian Francesco Bagnaia can secure his MotoGP title this weekend.
