Collided with the government; Alibaba’s base Mantan China | Alibab | Jack Ma

BEIJING: Suspicion remains over the disappearance of Jack Ma, 56, a Chinese billionaire and owner of Alibaba’s business network. Ma has not appeared in public since his October 24 speech criticizing China’s restrictions. The speech was delivered by Chinese Vice President Wang Qishan.

Rumors are circulating that Ma is under house arrest. It is estimated that this was preceded by an attempt by the government to dismantle Maoist companies as part of an ‘anti-monopoly’ investigation. Meanwhile, an article expressing displeasure with the Chinese government appeared in the official daily People’s Daily. The article goes on to say that there was no such thing as the ‘Ma period’ and that it is correct to say that ‘there was a Ma in this period’.
