While the College Football Playoff Semifinals will dominate the New Year’s Eve conversation, two more fun matchups are scheduled for Dec. 31.
The day kicks off with a New Year’s Six showdown, Alabama vs. Kansas State in the Sugar Bowl. Iowa and Kentucky play simultaneously in the Music City Bowl.
Both games lead to Michigan versus TCU in the Fiesta Bowl and Georgia versus Ohio State in the Peach Bowl. The college football championship matchup was to be determined by midnight.
Aside from Iowa vs. Kentucky, all New Year’s games will be ranked team fights, so expect fireworks.

No. 5 Alabama vs. No. 11 Kansas State
Alabama was the first school to reach the playoffs, though it’s not surprising that they lost. Bryce Young will wrap up his college career with a game in New Orleans against the champion Big 12 Wildcats. K-State contested then-undefeated TCU in the Conference Championship Game, a fine showpiece from head coach Chris Klieman.
Iowa versus Kentucky
This game is a good candidate for Chaos Runs Game of the Day. Iowa’s defense is stifling while their offense is often unable to move the ball. This combination creates strange games. Kentucky, meanwhile, is looking to cap off a roller coaster season with a win. This game is a replay of last year’s Citrus Bowl which the Wildcats won 20-17.
No. 2 Michigan vs. No. 3 TCUs
This is where people will really tune in. Michigan is making the playoffs for the second straight year, but this time they are favorites after being stifled by Georgia last year. Donovan Edwards will be a player to watch for Michigan with star running back Blake Corum absent. TCU will continue to rely on Heisman runner-up, Max Duggan.
No. 1 Georgia vs. No. 4 State of Ohio
The night concludes with the Bullodgs and Buckeyes meeting up to take on Michigan winner TCU. Both teams have strong offenses, led by Heisman finalists: Stetson Bennett for Georgia and CJ Stroud for Ohio State. But they also pride themselves on playing solid defense. This is one of the closest encounters between the number 1 and number 4 in recent years.
The four games will air on the ESPN family of networks. They can also be streamed live fuboTV, which offers a free trial.
