College football is arguably on the verge of profound change

Munich/Bristol – On August 27th, the new season in college football will start.

In advance, ESPN, the largest sports network in the US and one of the broadcasters, conducted a survey of over 200 players, coaches and school officials entitled: What does the future of college football look like? Everyone involved agrees that things will change.

Students than employees, more professionalism

Nearly 80 percent of those surveyed believe that within the next ten years, college athletes will be treated like employees at their respective schools. At least the players with scholarships.

This would turn the actual amateur sport into a professional sport. Around 75 percent believe that this will happen sooner rather than later.

Almost all respondents, 98 percent, believe that college football has changed completely compared to a few years ago.

“Can see it as a problem or an opportunity”

Kevin Warren, commissioner of the “Big Ten” conference, expects a major change in college football with the upcoming changes. “First of all, we all have to realize that we’re in an era of change,” Warren said.

He continued: “There are two types of people. Those who see change as a problem and those who see it as an opportunity. And I’m very happy that there is change now.”

In general, 60 percent of those surveyed are of the opinion that the standard of college operations is already significantly higher than it was ten years ago.

College operations begin as early as August 27 for some teams with week zero, with most programs starting their seasons a week later. ran will, as in the past two years, broadcast one game on free TV on ProSiebenMAXX and one in the stream on ran.de on Saturdays, directly afterwards.
