“It started six years ago. I used to buy cheap football boots and then sell them at a markup. Then there were also interesting models, rare pieces. But when I got another one like that, I started to feel sorry that I should lose them. At that time, I ended my playing career in Bělotín due to an injury. Well, it broke,” recalls the forty-three-year-old man.
He started with Predator adidas shoes. “That’s because they were popular with the boys. First two, three pairs, and suddenly I had twelve of them. I took a picture of them, put it on the Internet and found that people were interested. I now have 330 pairs of football boots,” he says.
He mainly buys new editions. “But if I like it, it doesn’t have to be special or limited. In that case, I will take more pairs, keeping two and selling the rest. But I also try to buy rare ones. However, it is extremely difficult to find ten-year-old football boots that are new and in complete packaging,” he explains. Nevertheless, limited editions for Argentina’s Lionel Messi and Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo are not missing among his polished darlings. “There are only around 400 of these in the world, so it is difficult to get them. And they are expensive. For example, those from the last world championship will cost around 1,700 euros,” Julius pointed out.
The former goalkeeper also collects balls and Jordan sneakers
He no longer sells rare pieces himself. “It is extremely difficult in the Czech Republic. We are a small country and people don’t want to spend a lot of money. Rare football boots are sometimes wanted, but not for collections, but for playing. He just wants to put them on and sink into nothingness. But I sold the new models for twice as much,” he revealed. However, what he values most is the unique exchange with a collector and seller from Germany who supplies soccer cleats to leagues in Spain and England. “Professionals watch him a lot. He was looking for football boots for Real Madrid star Brazilian Vinícius Júnior. I had one like this and in his size. So I exchanged them for the same model, only in a different color and one size larger, in my 43. I’m glad that such a fighter plays in them,” said the collector proudly.
In addition to soccer cleats, he is also interested in balls from European and world championships as well as the Champions League. He has several dozen of them, including the original packaged Roteira and Jabulani. “They are popular, sought after and there aren’t many of them in the world anymore. Especially the older ones are available in limited quantities. And at crazy prices. Some will even cost 600 euros,” said Majerský.
He doesn’t have all of them in his collection. “I’ve missed about five Champions Leagues since 2000. From the World Cup, again the most valuable final from 2010, when it was played in the Republic of South Africa,” he admitted.
Two years ago, he began expanding his collection portfolio to include shoes, mainly Nike, Jordan models produced under the patronage of the legendary basketball player Michael Jordan. “I have it as a sidekick. I’m still a complete amateur at this. But there is a much greater perspective in them in relation to evaluation,” he revealed his thoughts.
They solve everything almost exclusively on the Internet. He realizes that he cannot do without social networks, where he spends a lot of time. He is now followed by thousands of people on Instagram. “They know about me, even though we don’t know each other personally. They write to me, for example, about authenticity, they want advice. But it’s different in my immediate surroundings, I’m not known at all,” added the man who makes a living as an adjuster of hydraulic presses.
For everything he has, he has already spent around two million crowns. “I do it mainly for my son, who is seven years old and also plays football. To get something out of it. It will be up to him how he deals with it once. Maybe he’ll feel good about it. However, he would not like to see him play in some of my boots. But I also think about my daughter, who is one and a half years old. It was because of her that I added the shoes,” said the man who trains ninth-grade football players in Hranice.
He prefers not to let his wife in on the secrets of his collecting. “For her, the most important thing is that the boxes with all the things are gone from our apartment. We moved to a bigger one, but the space was getting smaller. She was unhappy about it,” he stated.
He is not yet thinking about setting up a permanent exhibition that he would make available to the public. “However, with a friend who collects different jerseys, we plan to show it to people on some occasions. Maybe two, three times a year,” he added.
