To mark the 33rd anniversary of the album “Artistic Vice” by outsider singer/songwriter Daniel Johnston, a collector’s edition is being released on vinyl. In addition to the 16 remastered songs from the original, the new edition contains 16 additional tracks, including demo versions, test recordings, outtakes and the previously unreleased song “All Good Children Got To Die”.
“Artistic Vice” was released in 1991 and was Johnston’s first studio album. He had already started a few projects before, but never finished a whole album. He distributed his demos on cassettes at work, which gave him early local fame.
After his official debut, he released eight more albums, including in collaboration with Jad Fair. For years he struggled with mental problems, which also affected his music. Johnston died in 2019, presumably of a heart attack. Johnston found many prominent fans in musical circles, for example Kurt Cobain and, most recently, Beabadoobee.
The Collector’s Edition on two disks can already be done pre-ordered become.
