“Collective Mourning: Reflections on National Day of Remembrance with Anthropologist Irene Stengs”

During this night of NTR we reflect on the National Day of Remembrance. What does it mean to mourn and remember together? How important is an annual ritual such as Remembrance Day and what other forms of collective mourning are we familiar with?

We will discuss this during this hour-long talk with cultural anthropologist Irene Stengs of VU University Amsterdam and researcher at the Meertens Institute. She researches public memorial rituals and knows everything about the concept of ‘collective mourning’.
