US information technology giant “International Business Machines Corp.” (IBM) will eliminate approximately 3,900 jobs, or a little more than 1% of the total number of jobs, in connection with the sale of businesses, a source familiar with the situation said on Wednesday.
When publishing the latest financial results, IBM did not provide information about the possible elimination of jobs, only indicated that in the first quarter of this year, one-time expenses of 300 million dollars will be registered. The information source says that these expenses are related to the elimination of jobs.
However, IBM explains that these expenses are entirely related to the spin-off of the Kyndryl unit, as well as the sale of the health data and analytics businesses.
At the same time, the company announced that in the fourth quarter of last year it worked with a profit of 2.9 billion dollars, which is 17% more than in the corresponding period of time in 2021.
