No flights without passenger checks: security personnel stopped working at several airports on Monday. Now the two largest German airports follow.
Air travelers have to be prepared for cancellations and delays as a result of warning strikes at several German airports this Tuesday. The Verdi union is expanding the strikes by aviation security personnel. The two largest German airports, Frankfurt and Frankfurt, are affected by warning strikes on Tuesday Munich – but also Hamburg, Stuttgart and Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden.
Strike at German airports: tens of thousands of travelers could not fly
The warning strikes are part of the wage conflict between Verdi and the Federal Association of Aviation Security Companies. The union is negotiating with the employers’ association about a new collective agreement for 25,000 security forces nationwide, three rounds of negotiations had so far remained unsuccessful. Both sides want to meet on March 16th and 17th in Berlin for further negotiations.
According to industry information, tens of thousands of travelers could not fly as early as Monday because passenger, personnel and freight controls were on strike. Berlin, Düsseldorf, Cologne/Bonn, Hanover, Hamburg, Leipzig/Halle and Bremen were affected. As a result, there were also failures at other airports.
Only transit passengers are to be processed at Frankfurt Airport
The Frankfurt airport operator Fraport has advised all passengers who wanted to board at Germany’s largest airport not to come to the airport. Only transit travelers should be processed. In Hamburg, the warning strikes are still in the middle of spring break. The airport company of the Hanseatic city, like other airport operators, recommended that travelers find out about the status of their flight before arriving at the airport.
According to a spokeswoman, Stuttgart Airport is also preparing for significant impairments. There could be changes to the plan, and flights could also be postponed. According to the management, Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden Airport will try to at least maintain emergency operations. However, delays are to be expected. (dpa)
