Collection grew 60% during AMLO’s six-year term: SAT

Mexico City. During the administration of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, collection increased around 60 percent in nominal terms, going from 2 trillion 299 billion pesos between January and September 2018 to 3 trillion 697 billion pesos in the same period of time. this year, reveal data from the Tax Administration Service (SAT).

According to the organization, the figure collected in the first nine months of 2024 shows an increase of 346,254 million pesos compared to the same period of 2023, that is, a real annual growth of 5.3 percent.

From last January to September, the SAT collected 2 billion 38 thousand 11 million pesos in income tax (ISR), which meant a growth of 114 thousand 865 million pesos compared to the same period of the previous year and an increase real 1.1 percent.

For value added tax (VAT), the SAT obtained one trillion 38 thousand 844 million pesos, that is, 85 thousand 790 million pesos more, which represented a real expansion of 4 percent, while for special tax on production and services (IEPS) a collection of 449,938 million pesos was recorded, which meant 121,573 million pesos more in nominal terms and a real increase of 30.8 percent compared to the same period in 2023.

The agency reported that these results are due to the implementation of the Master Control and Collection Plan, which has allowed the creation of an even floor in the collection of taxes without the need to create levies or increase existing ones.

The Master Plan includes better attention to the taxpayer, through the use of digital media and information technologies, aimed at encouraging voluntary compliance and thus strengthening the tax culture.

During the last six-year term, the SAT collected 3.5 billion pesos through audits and compliance promotion, which represented 2.3 billion pesos more than in the previous six-year term and a real growth of 120.2 percent.

Of the 3.5 trillion pesos collected, one trillion 426 thousand 725 million pesos were obtained from audits of large taxpayers and one trillion 87 thousand 476 million pesos from audits of small and medium taxpayers. Meanwhile, by promoting compliance, the SAT raised 989,182 million pesos.

Thanks to this, tax revenues have increased without increasing taxes or creating new ones, thereby guaranteeing an even and fair floor in the collection of contributions.said the agency, which a few days ago announced facilities so that taxpayers with debts can regularize their situation through partial payments.
