Collection for children receiving cancer treatment

Local teacher Martina Ferrer continues with her “Art that heals” project. On this occasion, and on the occasion of Children’s Day, she sells pasta combos for $550. The proceeds from the sale will be used to buy bookstore items and educational games to take to children who are hospitalized for cancer treatment at the Children’s Hospital La Santísima Trinidad and at Casa Soles, a space dedicated to welcoming the family of the little ones .

This is how Ferrer explained it to El Diario, where he commented that he attends both places in Córdoba capital once a month to offer recreational activities to children. It should be noted that the initial level teacher in early stimulation in art therapy and psychomotricity has been working for years in her art workshop for children of different ages.

Previously, and as we have published from this medium, it has made numerous deliveries of tricycles and bicycles with IV poles to different health entities in the province.

“After the pandemic I was able to re-enter the Hospital, where I attend room 200, dedicated to the oncology area. There, together with Florencia, from the Manitos Solidarias foundation, they carry out different recreational activities linked to art”, he highlighted.

In that sense, he specified that he chooses art because “children must spend a lot of time in a room, so I think of offering them something so that they can concentrate on recreational activities, because with toys the entertainment lasts less”. “I think that painting, creating with cold porcelain or playing with dough help to stimulate the sensory part of the hands more and distracts and takes the little ones out of what they are going through at times,” she asserted.

“In the box I include fibers, pencils, dough, wooden forms to paint, leaves and colored paper. I called it a box of “Art that heals” because I consider that art helps a lot to heal very difficult moments, like the one that children are going through,” said Ferrer.

In turn, she specified that, for her, “Children’s Day is very important, especially for these children who are undergoing such difficult processes. They must go through such complicated and intense treatments, so I consider that, beyond bringing them a gift, it is much more important to accompany them, be with them, do activities, so that they can distract themselves for a while and make them smile at times”.

Accompany the process

“It is essential to accompany the process that the boys are going through, because they are in a room all day enduring punctures, serums, studies and chemotherapies,” said the teacher, adding: “One arrives offering a different moment so that they can clear his mind through little activities.

Meanwhile, he commented: “Every time I return from the Hospital, I bring with me a different message and mixed feelings. Sometimes I return unarmed, other times, very strengthened, but always convinced that these processes must be accompanied.” “The children’s struggle leaves you with many life lessons, because instead of playing in a square or at school they are hospitalized, but they have a light of hope and a lot of faith to give everything and be able to get out of this disease,” he mentioned. .

Finally, he concluded: “People can collaborate with whatever they want, from toys to pencils, fibers, temperas. Every grain of sand that I add is an immense mountain of help”.
