Coldplay thrilled 63,000 fans and the Chancellor at their 2nd Vienna concert

Chancellor Karl Nehammer in the audience, the Taylor Swift cover of “Shake It Off” and even more emotions. Coldplay continued their successful run in Vienna on Thursday with a colorful spectacle.

63,300 fans celebrated Coldplay’s Vienna premiere on Wednesday, where they made headlines worldwide with their empathetic words for the Swifties (“The solidarity and friendliness of all Taylor fans in Vienna has also reached our hearts.”) and the cover of “Love Story”. From “Rolling Stone” to “CNN” to the “Daily Mail” and the “New Musical Express”. On Thursday, at the second round in the once again completely sold-out Happel Stadium, they went one step further and sang the Taylor Swift cover “Shake It Off” early on “for all Swifties in Vienna”.

Another surprise hit especially for Vienna, where Chancellor Karl Nehammer also rocked out in the audience. He saw the most colorful show of the year. And a cheerful sign against terror. Even though a few snipers took up positions on the stadium roof. But neither the fans nor Coldplay were put off by this.

“Signs of love and peace”

In addition to 100 million-selling anthems such as “Yello”, “A Sky Full of Stars” and “Fix You”, the second Austrian concert also featured a stadium-wide light choreography using LED strips, a big bombastic spectacle with fire fountains, a 3D video show and alien costumes.

Fangirl Isabella was brought on stage to sing “Don’t Panic”, a song that wasn’t on the setlist at the Vienna premiere, as a “sign of love and peace”. An absolute goosebumps moment that also makes us expect more surprises for the rest of the Vienna run.

After all, the brand new hit “We Pray” is coming on Friday and there are two more concerts in the Happel Stadium on Saturday and Sunday. This means that Coldplay has increased the attendance record to over 250,000!
