Coldplay will perform in Vienna on four evenings. After the thwarted terrorist attack on a Taylor Swift concert, particularly strict security measures are now in place. The singer is still a topic of conversation in the Austrian capital for other reasons too.
Starting Wednesday, Coldplay will be giving four sold-out stadium concerts in Vienna as part of their “Music of the Spheres” world tour. After the Taylor Swift concerts were cancelled due to plans for an attack, the Viennese authorities are implementing tighter security measures – even though there is no specific threat. Fans of the British band must therefore be prepared for access controls well before the stadium walls, large exclusion zones and strict access controls. A large police contingent will be deployed with the support of special units.
The crowds are being asked to allow time for extensive ID and bag checks. Bags larger than A4 format are prohibited, as are water bottles brought in. According to Austrian reports, Interior Minister Gerhard Karner stressed that the police are preparing “particularly intensively” for this operation. Up to 240,000 fans are expected in total over four consecutive concert days when frontman Chris Martin sings well-known hits such as “Viva La Vida”.
Attack plan on Swift concert
Three concerts by US megastar Taylor Swift were cancelled at the beginning of August due to suspicions of a terrorist attack. The singer, who is currently performing at London’s Wembley Stadium as part of her “The Eras” tour, has not yet made any public comment on the cancellations.
Much to the disappointment of the Swifties in Vienna, who no longer have any hope that the cancelled concerts will be rescheduled. Not only for logistical reasons, because Swift is moving on with her tour entourage, but also because the tour organizer has already announced that they will be refunded the cost of the tickets they bought.
Rumors about Swift’s appearance at Coldplay
There could be a surprise for the sad Viennese Swifties. At least according to the radio station “Ö3”. According to them, the American could appear on stage as a special guest at one of the Coldplay concerts. Swift would have time, because the European part of her “The Eras” tour ends on August 20th with a final concert in London.
Such a surprise appearance would be of no use to the 195,000 Swifties who had tickets for the Vienna concerts: the Coldplay performances are also completely sold out. So – if there is any truth to this rumor – there is no possibility of seeing Swift live, at least briefly in a duet with Chris Martin.
