USA (ANDigital) Days ago, Coldplay played live to thousands of fans on the Long Island City boardwalk. The performance that culminated in a colorful fireworks display can be seen on NBC’s special for the United States Independence Day (July 4) celebrations.
The experience was portrayed by the members of the band who shared different moments of their time in New York on social networks.
At dusk, the acclaimed band took the stage at Hunters Point South Park, facing the Oval and against the backdrop of the Manhattan skyline, as part of pre-recording for Macy’s July 4th celebration.
Between recorded takes of “Viva la Vida” and the new single “Higher Power,” Coldplay played an impromptu series of off-camera hits for fans, including “Yellow,” “Clocks,” and “A sky full of stars.” while they waited for the sunset.
More than a thousand fireworks were launched from a barge and lit up the sky, then reflected off the East River behind the band during the performance of “Higher Power.”
Hundreds of aerial projectiles exploded over the Manhattan skyline (including the Empire State Building lit up in red, white and blue).
As for the public, 500 fans received free access to the event with proof of vaccination, but the crowd increased to more than 8 thousand people who were also looking to attend one of the first open-air concerts in the city. Fans secured their location by gathering in the park more than four hours before the show. (ANDigital)
