After a mild start to winter, a cold snap hits most of the country next week.

This cold wave is linked to the stalling of the polar vortex which will position itself over the northern United States.

Blizzard over eastern US Sunday

Sunday, a very active depression sweeps the eastern United States, from North Carolina to Maine via Washington, New York, Pennsylvania and Boston. In New York, 10 cm of snow is expected. This will be the second heavy snowfall in less than a week.

Cold wave then

This snowstorm on Sunday will be followed by the arrival of freezing air over the northern United States. Temperatures will literally drop to -20 ° C in Boston and Chicago.

From Thursday, this cold snap will intensify further. -30 ° C will be approached in Chicago or Minneapolis and -20 ° C in New York at the end of next week. This cold will be accentuated by the snow on the ground which will create a strong radiation, resulting in very low temperatures at the end of the night.

10 thaw-free day in New York

This cold will also reach the southern United States. Snowfall is expected in Texas in Dallas from Thursday when the freezing air arrives. The temperature will drop to -10 ° C. Several days without thaw will be possible in this city. In the north of the country, New York could experience a record number of days without a thaw, from February 7 to 16.
