New train ticket prices come into effect on May 7. The price increase is on average 20 percent. BDZ argued the decision with inflation and the increased costs of the company.
The prices of the railway tickets for children and the elderly, which have a symbolic value of 1 BGN, will remain unchanged.
The transportation of children up to 7 years of age will be carried out free of charge upon presentation of a document certifying the age of the child and mandatory issuance of a ticket with zero value.
For example, for the direction Sofia-Burgas-Sofia for a two-way ticket for the fast train for the second class of BGN 30, the price of the ticket becomes BGN 36.70. For the same direction, but for a first class train from BGN 30, the price will be a little over BGN 38.
“Ticket prices have not been increased since 2012. There was only a partial increase of 1.8% in 2020,” commented the director of “BDZ – Passenger Transport” in Plovdiv, Angel Daskalov.
According to him, the price of the ticket on the line with Asenovgrad will increase from BGN 1.50 to BGN 2.
“The ticket from Plovdiv to Burgas, from BGN 16.25, will rise to BGN 19.20, and to Stara Zagora from BGN 8.10 to BGN 9.80. The renewal of the rolling stock is a top priority, so the German railways will deliver 76 the wagons, which will be equipped with air conditioners and information systems,” explained Daskalov.
