Muwafi said during his “My Lord, give me the knowledge” program, broadcast by the Sada Al-Balad channel, that cold extremities in winter occur due to the low blood supply to the hands and feet due to the cold.

The ICU professor added that coldness in the extremities can have psychological dimensions, because stress stimulates the brain to secrete hormones, which constrict the blood vessels that feed the hands and feet.

He explained that cold hands and feet can sometimes indicate an autonomic nervous system defect, which is responsible for the expansion and narrowing of blood vessels, depending on the body’s needs.

Muwafi concluded his speech by stressing the need to visit a doctor, if cold extremities persist, to perform some tests, such as duplex rays, which determine the amount of blood flowing to the hands and feet, and thus diagnose the cause of the disease and determine the appropriate treatment for it.
