Cold Case Wiesenfeld: Previous suspect died

It was shortly before Christmas in 1993 when the body of a missing girl was found in Wiesenfeld in the Main-Spessart district. It was lying in the cesspool of a remote equestrian farm. The 57-year-old owner of this emigrant farm has now died of organ failure. This has been confirmed by the Aschaffenburg lawyer Bernhard Zahn BR24.

Man was suspicious in the cold case of Wiesenfeld

The man was then 29 years old and was considered one of the suspects in the murder case. However, the proceedings had been discontinued. In a new trial he would probably only have to testify as a witness, suspects Zahn.

Former suspect died of natural causes

The man’s body has now been autopsied. There is no evidence of third-party negligence or suicide, said the lawyer. Actually, his mandate had already ended – but the public prosecutor had informed him about the death of the man and the autopsy.

There is no connection with the murder charges against another suspect in December, the lawyer emphasizes – despite the proximity of the time.

The murder case of girls was reopened

The Wiesenfeld cold case has been completely rewound. The investigators hope that they can solve the murder of the girl 28 years ago. Newly evaluated DNA traces on the victim had brought the police on the trail of a suspect. The 45-year-old from the Main-Spessart district was already in the focus of investigators in the 1990s.

45-year-olds were charged with murder

In January last year, the police arrested the man on suspicion of murder. He was released ten weeks later. Shortly before Christmas 2021, the Würzburg public prosecutor brought murder charges against the 45-year-old. The accused was 17 years old in 1993. The district court of Würzburg is now examining whether the case will be admitted to court. The decision should be made in January.
