The first time they were minted from 1958 to 1967, in silver. Diameter of 29.3 mm, thickness of 1.9 mm and 11 grams of. The 500 lire coins have made the history of Italy, through three stages: sailing with the Caravelle and its 19 coats of arms (the capital city of the time), celebrating the centenary of the unification of Italy, paying homage to Dante Alighieri, the father of the Italian language. In all three cases their value has increased dramatically today.
The one with the Caravels was the first 500 lire coin. That of 1957 with the engraving “Proof” and with the flags turned in the opposite direction to the common ones, now have a very high value: if in fair conditions their value is approximately five thousand euros, in Brilliant Uncirculated are even close to eight thousand euros.
Coins, Dante Alighieri’s 500 lire can even reach 5000 euros
The value of the 500 lire Caravelle coins from 1958 to 1961, on the other hand, is around 5 euros. One Brilliant Uncirculated can reach almost fifty. Those minted in the years 1983, 1988, 1995, 1997, 1988, 1995, 1997 and 2001 have a value of more than one hundred euros.

In 1861, for the centenary of the Unification of Italy, the State Mint coined the celebratory 500 silver lire. The peculiarity lies in the fact that even those of 1962 or 1963 always bear the inscription of the year 1961, perhaps for this reason that their value is about 6 euros per piece, in excellent condition. The 500 lire coins for the first centenary of the Unification do not have a great value: about 6 euros per piece, for a coin in excellent condition. Ditto for the 500 Lire, Dante Alighieri.

The 500 lire in honor of the great poet were minted on the occasion of the seventh centenary of his birth. The coin of Trial is worth around 5000 euros, more modest the rest, in good condition its value barely exceeds 10 euros.
From 1982 until the advent of the euro, that’s it the most common 500 lire, the bimetallic ones: in bronzital and acmonital. The classic, non-commemorative versions in excellent condition are worth around 2 euros. Those of 1991 with the big head, however, can exceed 10 euros. In excellent condition, even 20.
