Coil Whine caused by a component derived from PS4 PRO? The tests of a youtuber

In an attempt to resolve the PS5 Coil Whine problem, the youtuber TronicsFix has made a new teardown and disassembled the power supply to find out which internal component can cause the annoying hum emitted by his console.

Over the past few weeks, theexpert console repairman has already conducted tests on Sony’s nextgen platform, for example with the teardown del controller DualSense and a noise and temperature test with PS5 without fan and liquid metal.

For his latest PlayStation 5 themed special, the content creator has therefore decided to disassemble the Sony machine once again to find that, at least in his case, the Coil Whine appears to be caused by a capacitor inside the plastic shell that contains the components of thepower supply.

According to the youtuber, the capacitors in question are the same used by Sony for the power supply of PS4 PRO, judging by the information printed on the outer surface of the epoxy coating that protects these components. In the video at the top of the news, TronicsFix makes sure that the PS5’s Coil Whine doesn’t come from the fan and, once the power supply cover has been removed, he simply disconnects the capacitor, with the promise to record a new video as soon as he understands which spare part to use to solve the problem of the hum emitted by his console.
