Cohep manages vaccines for 1.8 million Hondurans

The CHonduran Council of Private Enterprise (Cohep) negotiates with the laboratories that produce the vaccine against covid-19 to inoculate more than 1.8 million Hondurans.

The private company began the steps to bring the vaccines to the country several weeks ago, well Honduras has lagged behind in the race to vaccinate its population against the disease that it is leaving thousands of deaths and infections.

THE PRESS learned that there were 5,424 companies of all sectors, professional associations, government institutions, neighborhood associations and trusts, retiree associations, academia, churches, among others, that requested the Cohep to bring the vaccine.

Of the total, 96% (5,185) are willing to vaccinate their workers, 80% (4,138) are willing to vaccinate their family members. employees and 46% (2,362) willingness to donate vaccines.

According to the data, the total number of people to be vaccinated would be 1,828,670; of which 637,730 are collaborators of the interested companies, 813,984 are relatives of the employees and 376,956 would be vaccines to donate. If vaccines that have two doses are acquired, they would be bringing to the country 3,657,340 doses, by the private company.

The President of CohepJuan Carlos Sikaffy told LA PRENSA that there is a technical group that has already started negotiations with different laboratories. “We must remember that the supply of vaccines is not as high as we would like and for that reason we are making multiple efforts to find available, quality vaccines at a good price and that they arrive in the country as soon as possible.”

He added that the private company still does not have a projected amount of how much is the investment in the purchase of the inoculators, because “that will be defined according to the number of vaccines that we order and the negotiations that are achieved with the pharmaceutical companies.”

The vice president of the Chamber of Commerce and Industries of Tegucigalpa (CCIT), Daniel Fortín, guaranteed that the vaccine being negotiated through Cohep will be free for workers.

He warned that “no company can deduct the payment of the vaccine from a worker’s salary, if this is done we ask that they report to that company because the agreement and the initiative of Cohep is that companies pay for vaccines and give them away to their workers ”.
