Coffee and kitties: Leipzig gets a second cat café

In addition to the café on Nürnberger Strasse, another space will open in the city center.

Like the Katzentempel Leipzig a few days ago on Facebook announced that in addition to the café on Nürnbergerstrasse, there will soon be a space on Katharinenstrasse in the heart of the city centre. The new café is scheduled to open at the beginning of April and, according to the previous concept, will not only employ human “employees”.

A total of five Greek street cats are to move into the new temple and keep the guests company over coffee, cake and snacks.

The café has already introduced one of the tomcats in a Facebook post: “Today we present you our first temple kitty: Hector! Despite his small handicap, he keeps us on our toes and doesn’t match his furry colleagues in terms of stamina and fun after”, the café operators wrote about the first “employee” (spelling adopted).

Together with his four siblings, the operators had discovered Hector neglected under a garbage container during their last holiday in Crete and decided to give him a new home.

The first cat café opened in 2018 on Nürnberger Strasse in Leipzig. In order to be allowed to run a shop like this, a license must first be bought, because the actual idea came from a resourceful cat fan from Munich. There are now cafés in many large cities such as Hamburg and Nuremberg.

So that the hustle and bustle of people in the cafés doesn’t get too much for the velvet paws, they have numerous retreats within the premises, which are also taboo for people. There are also certain rules, such as that the cats cannot simply be picked up.

After all, everyone should benefit from a visit to the cat café – even the residents with whiskers.
