Mexico City. On a working tour in the United States, the head of Cofepris, Alejandro Svarch, presented to PAHO the platform of the Comprehensive Substance System (SISUS) and the impact that its application has to regulate substances as chemical precursors.

The presentation was made together with representatives of the Secretary of the Navy (Semar), a department also responsible for managing the computer system. The development of Sisus is part of the reforms to the Federal Law for the Control of Chemical Precursors, Essential Chemical Products and Machines to Prepare Capsules, Tablets and/or Tablets, published in 2023, in order to guarantee national security and health of people.

The Mexican officials explained the advantages of the system, among others, the possibility of simplifying administrative procedures for individuals or corporations that carry out any activity regulated by legislation, in addition to having a tool that provides key information for the coordination of efforts with others. countries in the surveillance of regulated substances.

In addition, it contributes to preventing diversion of substances towards illicit purposes, since it is possible to monitor, track and follow up on the marketing and transformation of chemical substances classified as narcotic drugs, psychotropic drugs, chemical precursors and essential chemical products, from their entry into national territory. and until its final destination.

With Sissu you can also carry out online procedures such as the registration of movements in control books, notifications of diversion of regulated substances, among others. Users obtain digital responses, thus avoiding contact with public servers. In this way, acts of corruption and influence peddling are combated, Cofepris and Semar officials explained.
