Anyone looking for Coen Burg at the trailer park on Walstrostraat in Den Bosch will be busy for a while. With the birth of the youngest Coen, there are now four generations living there with exactly the same name. “It’s a popular name. There are fifteen Coens in the entire Burg family,” says the second youngest Coen.

In total there are five generations of Coen Burg, of whom four are still alive. The instigator of all this passed away a few years ago, but four generations of Coen Burg remains special. The youngest descendant was born on 22 July in the Jeroen Bosch Hospital. Proud father is ‘Coentje’ Burg (28). He is a goalkeeper for the indoor soccer players of FCK/De Hommel and plays in the Eredivisie.

The father of ‘Coentje’ and grandfather of the youngest Coen is simply Coen Burg (53). He has a car company. The oldest of the living Coens is called grandpa Coen (77). “There are many more Coens in our family, also men who have a different surname”, says the footballer and young father.

“We have enough nicknames so that it doesn’t get confusing on birthdays.”

According to ‘Coentje’, the popularity of the name Coen does not really cause confusion at birthdays and weddings, for example. “For example, my daughter calls my grandpa moustache grandpa and she calls my father grandpa. But we do have more nicknames like big Coen, white Coen and little Coen. We’ll figure that out.”

His own newborn son already seems to have his nickname: little Coentje, says father ‘Coentje’ as he looks proudly at his little boy.

“You almost never hear of four generations with exactly the same name.”

The family gets a lot of nice reactions to continuing the Coenen line. “And people have to laugh about it too. They write on Facebook in the reactions, for example: ‘Oh Coen, I never expected that'”

Where exactly the popularity of the name Coen within the Burg family in Den Bosch comes from, no one knows. “But my great-grandfather started it and we all continued it.”

“Our son’s name was decided in advance.”

Coen and his wife Devany first had two beautiful daughters Elena and Milana. “When we were allowed to have a boy, the name was set, yes”, laughs the proud father. “There was no discussion about that.”

Of course, ‘Coentje’ hopes that his little Coentje will continue the line of Coenen Burg. “That would be great, but I especially hope that he – if he wants to be a father – will be able to become the father of a healthy child. Then we will talk about the name.” Because unfortunately, Coen and his wife Devany know from their own experience that this is not a given.
