Code Yellow Weather Alert: Heavy Wind Gusts in Coastal Provinces of the Netherlands

Jan 23, 2024 at 9:49 AM Update: 2 minutes ago

Code yellow applies to the provinces of Zeeland, South Holland, North Holland, Flevoland, Friesland and the Wadden Islands from Tuesday evening due to heavy gusts of wind. It will not be as intense as during storm Isha, which passed over the Netherlands on Monday.

The code yellow for the coastal provinces applies from 10 p.m., KNMI reports. The wind will increase in strength during Tuesday. The heavy wind gusts will continue throughout the night into Wednesday.

Showers will also pass over the country at night. During an intense downpour, the wind gusts may be even stronger, Weeronline warns.

In the coastal areas and around the IJsselmeer, wind gusts can reach up to 90 kilometers per hour. On the north coast, speeds of up to 100 kilometers per hour can be reached.

The north and west in particular must also take heavy gusts of wind into account on Wednesday morning. An official storm with an hourly average of wind force 9 is unlikely to occur.

Due to the gusts of wind, the morning rush hour may be busier on Wednesday. The wind may blow branches and trees onto the road. The showers will largely be over on Wednesday morning.
