Code Yellow Issued in Seven Provinces of the Netherlands Due to Chance of Strong Thunderstorms

Aug 23, 2023 at 8:39 PM Update: 35 minutes ago

There is a chance of strong thunderstorms in a large part of the Netherlands on Thursday afternoon. The KNMI has therefore issued code yellow in seven provinces.

This means code yellow

The KNMI issues four different weather codes: green, yellow, orange and red. The weather institute describes code yellow as follows: “There is a possible chance of dangerous weather. These are weather situations that often occur in the Netherlands where it is advisable to pay attention, especially when on the road. Code yellow can be issued 48 hours before the weather phenomenon occurs. The certainty is at least 60 percent.”

The warning code applies from noon on Thursday and lasts until early evening. It concerns the provinces of Zeeland, South Holland, Utrecht, Overijssel, Gelderland, Limburg and North Brabant.

According to the KNMI, the thunderstorms are accompanied by wind gusts of around 60 kilometers per hour, hail and a lot of rain in a short time. “There is also a chance of thunderstorms on Thursday evening, but for now this is very uncertain.”
