It is a wet and stormy day in Brabant. Showers are moving across the province and are expected to last all day. Strong gusts of wind will be added during the afternoon. The KNMI has announced code yellow.
Meteorologist Raymond Klaassen of Weerplaza cannot make it more beautiful than it is: “It is a wet day, that much is clear. A disturbance is moving across the country that brings a lot of rain, and that will continue for a while.” And that produces quite a few millimeters of rain in the rain gauges. “I assume 20 to 30 millimeters of water coming down,” says Klaassen.
Code yellow
Whether such a quantity of water will also lead to nuisance, remains to be seen. We are ‘lucky’ that it rains all day, Klaassen explains. “Look, if this amount of rain falls in one shower in half an hour, then the drainage is a problem. But now it is a steady form of precipitation.”
The code yellow that the KNMI has announced is therefore not because of the rain, but because of the wind. “Particularly in the first half of the afternoon and later this evening, heavy gusts of wind can occur. In Brabant with speeds in Brabant of approximately 75 to 80 kilometers per hour. That can also lead to problems. If a branch of a tree blows .”
Hail and thunder
“It will become drier later in the afternoon, but there is still a chance of some hail and thunderstorms. “I expect the most showers to fall tonight in the northern half of the country. Brabant is then a little more in the shade.”
Anyone who gets gloomy from such autumnal weather will want to give Klaassen a boost. “From tomorrow we will be rid of the precipitation. Then we will have a really sunny period again and the weather will look a lot friendlier.”
