Code red in the hospitals in Brabant, Jeroen Bosch withdraws all leaves

Employees of the Jeroen Bosch Hospital in Den Bosch were told on Friday afternoon that all days of leave and holidays have been withdrawn. They are also not allowed to go abroad. This is stated in an internal communication, held by Omroep Brabant. They are also urged to minimize patient contact.

The letter states that employees of the hospital in Den Bosch may also have to perform other tasks than they are used to. Examples include replenishing cupboards in the intensive care unit and cleaning beds.

For the time being, this is not yet necessary, the letter says: “But know that this measure is an option for the future to keep the hospital running.” 4000 people work at the Jeroen Bosch Hospital.

Amphia Hospital
Measures are also being taken in the Amphia Hospital in Breda. “Planned operations are canceled. We are committed to acute care,” said a spokesperson. Medical microbiologist Jan Kluytmans said on Thursday evening in Nieuwsuur that nurses are now being trained very quickly, for example, to learn how to ventilate.

Amphia Hospital seriously takes into account a scenario in which it has to choose which corona patients are helped and which are not. The leaves of the employees have not yet been withdrawn.

Bravis hospital
The Bravis hospital with locations in Roosendaal and Bergen op Zoom also announced measures on Friday. As a precaution, extra beds will already be placed in the IC department. Healthcare personnel have been asked not to go on vacation and to cancel planned holidays until March 31. A spokesperson emphasizes that there is no shortage at the moment and that there are also sufficient personnel available.

In the Bravis, part of the planned operations will be scaled down from Monday. People whose operations are canceled have had a message. “If you have not had a message, the operation will continue,” said a spokesman.

Capacity issues
Capacity problems are likely to arise in all Brabant hospitals due to the corona crisis. Hospitals are consulted several times a day to monitor the situation and scale up where necessary. All hospitals in Brabant agreed on Thursday that they aim to double the intensive care places.

The capacity problems are caused by the sharp increase in the number of registered infections in our province. The number of patients diagnosed with the virus in Brabant increased by 87 on Friday, according to the latest RIVM figures. That brings the total to 360.

Also from St. Anna Hospital in Geldrop, only emergency operations will be performed from Monday.
