“My first memory dates back to June 5, 2020. Still a chick, I was ringed in my nest, in Jaronice – a town located in the south-west of the Czech Republic.
I was spotted for the first time by volunteers from Anjou Animal Protection League, at the end of March 2021, at the heart of Maine, in the city center of Angers (Maine-et-Loire). They couldn’t believe it: from Jaronice to Angers, there are 1,115 km – as the crow flies.
An open-air restaurant
My taste for travel led me between Leipzig and Dresden, in East Germany, the following summer. Then I switched back to the heart of Maine esplanade, from November 24. I took a liking to it, and my stomach too: the walkers who come to have lunch there don’t leave me crumbs!
I feel good in Angers, and I intend to stay there until the beginning of spring. Then I will trace the route to the east, to nest there. And, for sure, I will come back to Anjou next winter.
I knew a Polish seagull
Until then, if you have a good pair of binoculars, you can easily spot me with my cute yellow ring and my number, WT24. I’m not shy, like all the other black-headed gulls enjoying their time in Maine-et-Loire.
My ultimate goal? Beat the longevity record of a Polish seagull, controlled in Angers by the LPO at the venerable age of 17 years, 7 months and 2 days. Down to a feather. »
PS: Thanks to Alain Fossé, of the Anjou Bird Protection League, for the precious information, all authentic, put in the mouth of this laughing and traveling seagull.
