Thanks to his self-built code breaker, Turing contributed to the acceleration of the end of the Second World War, historians subsequently concluded.
After that war, however, he was persecuted and forced to undergo hormone treatment because of his homosexuality. At the age of 41 he committed suicide.
The UK central bank note is no longer printed on paper, but on a new polymer material. With additional watermarks and secret specific features, this offers better protection against counterfeiting than the current version. It is therefore a tribute to Turing, says the bank in London.

The note will be released on June 23, Turing’s birthday. The Bank of England now calls him “one of Britain’s foremost scientists.”
In the same series, notes with images of Winston Churchill and Jane Austen are released.
At the Bank of England, the rainbow flag went up at its headquarters on Thursday in honor of Alan Turing ‘and his legacy’.
