We’re just hours away from the start of the second season of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War and also the presentation of a new Zombies mode experience, Outbreak, which will take us to the Ural Mountains as part of the Cold War and with different armed groups in search of Dark Aether, an element that could end the conflict. As part of this debut, at LEVEL UP, we had the opportunity to chat with Craig Houston and Kevin Drew, who revealed some interesting details.
Outbreak will be the first Zombies mode with a sandbox style
During the LEVEL UP interview with Craig Houston, writer of Treyarch and Kevin Drew, studio designer, we asked them about Brote’s proposal and his commitment to freedom, and no longer about the linearity of the previous installments, and the options that this offers the player. In that sense, Kevin Drew told us: “It’s a giant sandbox, we are not limiting you in any way artificially. How you reach your goal is up to you. You can use a jumping mat and parachute the entire area. I did that to launch myself from a jump pad, to fall all the way down and I arrive perfectly at the start of the goal ”.
What has been achieved in Brote has been made possible by progress in development
For his part, Craig Houston celebrated what they were able to achieve with Brote thanks to the technology of the time: “I always wanted to do something like this. If you go back to the previous maps you can see that we were trying to open up more space, but those were the technical limits of those years, with everything we learned from Blackout and obviously the success of Warzone, that is. t was the right time and the right game to do it. This is something that we have been working on for a long time. “
Finally, we asked the creatives how many zombies we’ll find in Outbreak at a specific location and Kevin Drew’s response was, “I think it’s around 40. Around 40 zombies in an area at a specific time. You really see this. in the objectives because they are where all the players are ”.
