A cocaine laundry was discovered in the Chaam countryside on Monday afternoon. This is a place where cocaine is extracted from clothing or cardboard, for example, and processed into powder form. A 58-year-old man and a 37-year-old woman have been arrested. One of the suspects is a known criminal.
It concerns Alex B. (58), reliable sources around the investigation confirm. B. was convicted in December, along with two other men, of the controversial kidnapping of Gino and Rien at the end of 2015. The victims were then also held in a trailer in the outskirts of Chaam under poor conditions.
Drug lab
The police received an anonymous tip on Monday afternoon that there may be a drug lab on a plot with a bungalow and shed on the Leerdreef.
After investigation it turned out that it was a cocaine laundromat. For example, clothes, cardboard or shampoo from South America that secretly contain cocaine arrive there. This makes it easier and unseen to be smuggled into the country. In the laundry, the cocaine is removed from the items and processed with chemicals into a powder form. It then often enters the market in the form of one-kilo blocks and possibly leaves Europe again.
The lab has been dismantled. Solvents and materials such as presses, molds and microwave ovens have been seized.
Coke labs have been appearing more often in recent years, especially in West Brabant. Most of these labs popped up in South Holland last year.
A year ago, the police and customs found a lab in the polder near Steenbergen. Ten Colombians worked and lived there in a warehouse full of chemicals.
In this video we explain why Gino’s kidnappers only appeared in court years later.
