Coca-Cola suspends activities at Morelos plant due to insecurity

Coca-Cola Femsa has decided to temporarily suspend its operations at the plant located in Puente de Ixtla, Morelos, due to insecurity in the area and to preserve the safety of its employees.

The company, the largest producer of packaged beverages in the country, announced this in a statement.

“At Coca-Cola FEMSA we have decided to temporarily suspend our operations in the different channels in the area. We will resume our activities once safety conditions are assured,” the statement said.

He argued that the measure is in order to guarantee the safety of his collaborators and in response to the insecurity situation that the Puente de Ixtla community is experiencing, which is located in the southern part of the state of Morelos, which borders Guerrero.

The company’s decision was announced at a time when four of its delivery workers were detained by alleged criminal groups, who stole their merchandise and took them to another entity, events for which the state prosecutor’s office opened an investigation file.

“This is a presumption that it may be organized crime. According to the records, this way of operating was already being carried out in the state of Guerrero and it is very likely that they have migrated to the state of Morelos, trying to carry out the same activity, due to what has occurred in Taxco,” said the acting governor, Samuel Sotelo Salgado, quoted by local media.

For his part, Eduardo Medina, president of Canacintra Morelos, regretted the closure of Femsa’s operations in that area, pointing out that these are companies that generate numerous sources of employment. He pointed out that the company has taken similar measures in other states such as Tamaulipas, due to the issue of insecurity.
