Coca Cola has new lids. Customers rebel, it’s impossible to do something important with them

As a result of efforts to protect the environment, people have to prepare for a variety of changes that may not be to their liking. After all, many of them are already being implemented. For example, there is already a ban on the sale of disposable straws, cutlery, crockery and other utensils.

Problem eyelids

However, the European Union’s efforts to regulate plastic production and recycling go much further. One of the things we need to prepare for has now been introduced with some notice by the Coca Cola company. He started selling his drinks in bottles with integrated screw caps. This should be one of the other ways to protect the environment.

It may seem that the lid is relatively small, but if there are hundreds of thousands to millions of them, it suddenly becomes a huge pile of plastic. And while people are already learning how to recycle bottles, they often forget their lids or worse, throw them away somewhere.

Little is known, but it is precisely the obligation of inseparable caps from PET bottles which will come into force in the European Union from 2024. This regulation assumes that all bottles up to three liters must have a solid cover, which today covers practically all production intended for families. This also applies to cooking oils or cardboard packaging.

Angry customers

Already some bottles have non-separable lids. These are, for example, sports drinks, drinks for children or some mineral waters. However, this is usually not a classic screw cap, but a hinged cap. Coca Cola is the first major company to introduce the impossibility of removing the screw cap from the bottle.

The multinational giant has already introduced these lids in some European markets and it is only a matter of time before they arrive in the Czech Republic as well. While the manufacturer himself officially praises them, customers often rebel.

They share angry posts on social media, often accompanied by videos showing how uncomfortable it is to drink from such bottles. The eyelids twist in various ways and interfere with drinking. They can even scratch you.

Also, if you handle the lids too much to put them in a place where they won’t bother you while you drink, you can damage them and therefore they will no longer seal. In the end, people still managed to cut the lids off the drinks.
