Coca-Cola celebrates the magic of Christmas and a 100-year anniversary

In the Christmas campaign that starts today, Coca-Cola focuses on the magic of the big festival. The focus of the communication is a spot by Oscar winner Taika Waititi. In addition, this year Coca-Cola is celebrating 100 years of Christmas advertising.

The Christmas campaign 2020 follows the tenor “Open like never before” and shows that it is not necessarily gifts that make Christmas. “2020 was a difficult year for all of us. That is why the festive season will certainly be even more meaningful,” says Lisa-Maria Moosbrugger, Senior Brand Manager for Coca-Cola in Austria. “This year we are emphasizing the real magic of Christmas, because it is about showing our appreciation to loved ones, creating a feeling of community and – as far as the circumstances allow – spending time together,” said Moosbrugger. The main message of the Coca-Cola Xmas commercial is the statement “You are the best present for Christmas!” The Oscar-winning screenwriter, director and actor Taika Waititi, who also directed “Thor: Day of Decision”, was behind the spot.

Christmas and Coca-Cola have a long tradition – a 100-year tradition, to be precise. This tradition is also reflected on the Christmas packaging. The lines “The Original Taste of Christmas” are also written on the Coca-Cola Regular packs above a seemingly historical Santa Claus.
