Coca Cola cans are now empty across large parts of Norway

There is now a report of a shortage of soda packaging in several countries in Europe and in the USA.

This is one of many consequences of the new life patterns during the pandemic.

The same now applies in Norway. For those who are particularly fond of drinking Coca Cola, it has recently led to an acute shortage of shelves.

That is, you simply do not get hold of Coke cans as easily as before. The shops are empty.

Closed restaurants – increased grocery trade

– Unfortunately, we have run out of Coke cans in most Obs stores across the country. Although we have planned this well in advance, the supplier has not been able to deliver on time. We’m sorry , says communications manager in Coop, Harald Kristiansen, to NRK.

Under normal circumstances, Norwegians drink Coke and other soft drinks in restaurants, pizza bars, cafes and other restaurants. But during the pandemic, these arenas have largely been closed, which has shifted consumption to households.

– International challenge

Both Norgesgruppen and Coop Obs report empty shelves with Coke cans.

– It has been an international challenge with boxes. We are in high season for Coke drinking, and we are working intensely to maintain deliveries and to avoid more challenges in the time ahead, explains Coca-Cola Norway’s communications director, Per Hynne, to the state channel.

Large increase in sales of beer and soft drinks during the pandemic

New deliveries are on the way, but for now, people have to be patient and choose alternative sources of drink.

According to the Brewery and Beverage Association, there has been a large upswing in sales of beer and soft drinks since the pandemic hit Norway in March last year.
