The Cobra Museum in Amstelveen is “out of acute financial distress” thanks to an investment from an art lover. Healthcare entrepreneur Marius Touwen has invested an unknown amount in the museum of modern art.
The ailing museum hopes that Touwen’s contribution “provides a new basis” to enter into discussions with the municipality of Amstelveen about a structural solution for the survival of the cultural institution.
The municipal council wants to stop subsidy to the museum from next year. The city council will make a decision on this in the next two weeks.
Touwen is the founder of the occupational health and safety network Zorg van de Zaak and is co-owner of the Red Cross Hospital in Beverwijk. The capital of the entrepreneur, who is in the Quote 500 was estimated at around 91 million euros in 2019.
The entrepreneur emphasizes that his contribution is not a gift, but part of a construction in which he wants to work together with the management and the municipality on “a better basis” for the Cobra Museum. Touwen also wants to think about the programming.
