Coastal tourism wants to focus on the Scandinavian market: an alternative to the too warm south

According to the West Flemish tourism company Westtoer and Toerisme Vlaanderen, our coast can be an alternative to the warm south in the summer. Much attention is being paid to whether there is potential to encourage Scandinavians to take a trip to the sea.

Toerisme Vlaanderen and Westtoer are investigating whether they can encourage residents of Scandinavia to enjoy a holiday on the Belgian coast. “It is a market that we are keeping an eye on, because we are receiving signals that there is increasing interest from that region in our coastal region,” says Westtoer.

The Scandinavian press is also showing interest in Belgian coastal tourism. “Last year a delegation of journalists came to visit and this year we are inviting journalists as well. They are interested in our culinary story, but also in cultural projects such as Beaufort.”

According to Westtoer, tourists from the Scandinavian countries are looking for an alternative to the traditional, warm destinations in the south that are becoming increasingly warmer due to climate change. Toerisme Vlaanderen and Westtoer closely monitor trends in order to respond further if necessary.
