A powerful coastal storm that will hit Florida and other southern states first will make its way up the East Coast toward the tri-state area, where rain and strong winds are expected Sunday and Monday.
It will be the second weekend in a row that a powerful storm will hit the region.
The low pressure system will move northward Sunday afternoon and would dump 1.5 to 3 inches of rain total through Monday. “We will really see the character of the storm when it hits Florida on Saturday,” warned meteorologist Brittany Bell of ABC News.

The heaviest precipitation is expected in the tri-state area Sunday night and early Monday morning. Previously in Florida the forecast is for up to 6 inches of rain tomorrow Saturday.
It is possible that they occur puddles on roads, coastal flooding, isolated power outages and some wind damage. The gusts could reach between 40 and 50 miles per hour. “Check that storm drains are free of leaves and other debris so rain can drain efficiently. Secure loose items and Christmas decorations,” Bell recommended.
