Coastal Communities Prepare for Incoming Storm in Massachusetts

Scituate Residents Gear up for Potential Flooding and Winds

Town leaders in Scituate, Massachusetts, have urged residents to brace themselves for an impending storm that is expected to lash the area with heavy rain, coastal flooding, and high winds. While many Scituate residents are no strangers to inclement weather conditions, it is crucial to make the necessary preparations to ensure safety and minimize potential damages. Measures such as ensuring the functionality of sub pumps, clearing downspouts, and reporting clogged catch basins are being taken to mitigate adverse impacts.

Fishermen Prepare for Challenging Conditions

Scituate fishermen have gradually been tying up their boats as they anticipate the imminent weather challenge. Despite the bountiful fishing season, the approaching storm with its projected strong winds, formidable waves, and the possibility of flooding in the harbor have compelled fishermen like Danny Derose to acknowledge the significance of taking precautions.

Derose expressed, “It looks like it’s probably going to be a pretty good storm. The fishing has been good, so we didn’t want to come in, but it’s going to be three days of some pretty good wind, some pretty good waves, possible flooding here in the harbor.”

Utility Companies on Alert

Utility companies, such as Eversource and National Grid, are also closely monitoring the situation. In Duxbury, Eversource crews have been actively clearing tree branches away from power lines, aiming to reduce the likelihood of widespread power outages. These utility crews have already positioned themselves strategically to promptly address any unforeseen incidents.

A Preventative Role – Keeping Contact Information Handy

Both National Grid and Eversource have encouraged their customers to keep their contact information easy to access should their assistance be required during the storm. This proactive strategy enables swift and efficient action by the utility companies when responding to any power-related issues.
