The agency reported that a Canadian search plane detected underwater noises in the search area, and efforts are now focused on determining the source of these sounds.
Since the submarine’s disappearance on Sunday, both the United States and Canada have launched a massive response, with search crews working tirelessly to locate the missing group in the north Atlantic Ocean. As of Wednesday morning, two Canadian coast guard ships and a commercial vessel have arrived in the search area to assist in the operation.
The incident occurred when a Canadian research vessel lost contact with the 21-foot sub approximately one hour and 45 minutes into its dive on Sunday morning. The location of the incident was approximately 900 nautical miles off the coast of Cape Cod, Massachusetts. The sub was expected to resurface Sunday afternoon but failed to do so.
