Coast Guard helps rescue 17-year-old Hawaiian boy ‘stuck in kayak after treading water for nearly 12 hours’

The Coast Guard said the teen was spotted around 4 a.m. Thursday and that “a good Samaritan, an off-duty lifeguard with the Honolulu Marine Safety Department, rescued the boy from the water.”

“I think he was completely shocked because he wasn’t emotional at all. I was actually crying inside because he was okay,” Noland Keaulana said. Quoted from KHON2 As you say. “He said he was worried that my mom would probably miss me.”

“Kahiau, who could be seen by rescuers searching for him, was strong, resilient and brave during the 11 and a half hours he spent in the dark, and is grateful to be back with his family and friends,” the statement added. “Thank you to the doctors and nurses who cared for Mahalo. And finally, we would like to thank everyone who believed in God and prayed for us for his safe return.”
