“Coalition of the Modern Left” is the name proposed for the official opposition party by Stefanos Kasselakis to the Statute committee that is meeting at this time. It is recalled that at the beginning of the summer St. Kasselakis had told One Channel categorically that “the name will remain SYRIZA”.
He also proposed radical changes such as the abolition of the Political Secretariat and the replacement of Prefectural Committees with Regional Committees.
The proposals fell like a bolt of lightning, surprising all the members of the Commission, who, according to information from documentonews.gr, expressed serious reactions, since they had no information until a few minutes before the start of the meeting.
Another proposal is to reduce the number of members of the Central Committee (151), which will be renamed the National Committee of Members and will include MPs and MEPs ex officio. It will meet 4 times per year.
Also, St. Kasselakis proposed a maximum limit of three terms for each member of parliament per district. That is, if someone has been elected three times in a certain region, in the next elections he will have to change region.
Furthermore, in his presentation, he suggested that party members should have more powers, so that they could decide on top issues, such as ballots. In line with this proposal, the digitization of the party is proceeding.
Also, in addition to the secretary and the deputy secretary, 4 positions of special secretaries who will have a specific role are proposed.
Furthermore, the Ethics Committee will be able to proceed directly with deletions. In case of deletion of a member, the decision may be appealed.
