Greens, CDU and Volt present the draft of their coalition agreement. More Tempo 30 zones, car-free residential areas and a main cycle route network are planned.

The draft of the coalition agreement between the Greens, CDU and Volt is a whopping 117 pages. The top priority is climate protection. Darmstadt is to become climate neutral by 2035. “A total of 300 million euros will be made available for climate protection measures,” said Volt spokeswoman Jana Wilke in a joint press release by the coalition partners. The Bauverein AG received 100 million euros to increase the equity in order to be able to renovate the existing housing stock more quickly in terms of energy efficiency.

“Wherever we can influence, we will make the city climate-neutral by 2035,” said Green Party spokeswoman Hildegard Förster-Heldmann. Darmstadt is playing a pioneering role in this.

The paper, on which the members of the parties will vote in the coming weeks, is divided into twelve fields of action of urban politics. “The overriding goal is to set the course for the future viability of our growing city under the paradigm of climate protection,” emphasized CDU spokesman Paul Wandrey.

The share of local public transport, cycling and walking should increase to 75 percent. For this purpose, among other things, a main cycle route network is planned in the urban area. The city also wants to designate additional 30 km / h zones and initiate its own model project at the federal level. In addition, a pilot project “low-car ownership” is to start.

The city center is to be upgraded and the quality of the public space and green areas improved. More social participation, more citizen participation, strengthening of the welcoming culture and expansion of the immigration office, commitment to acceptance for lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans *, intersex and queer people and the promotion of democracy and European political issues and the strengthening of the urban economy are also goals in the draft contract. The school renovation is to be continued and all schools are to receive a sustainable digital infrastructure.

“In all of our projects, the budget is our overall strategic plan,” said Wandrey. After overcoming the pandemic, restoring a balanced budget must therefore be the focus.
