Deliveries of contracted coal from Of Kazakhstan to Ukraine have not yet occurred due to the blocking of the transit route by Russia.
As an UNIAN correspondent reports, Energy Minister German Galushchenko announced this at a briefing.

“No, it does not leave Kazakhstan (coal – UNIAN). There is a signed contract with Centrenergo for 660 thousand tons of Kazakh coal during the autumn-winter period. But, again, due to the corresponding actions of the Russian Federation, transit through the Russian territory, “he said.
Galushchenko explained that so far there is no other way how to get the contracted volumes of coal.
“Accordingly, we and Centrenergo do not yet see any other possibilities to physically obtain this coal,” he added.
The minister noted that the supply of coal by sea is increasing.
Coal imports:
In January-November 2021, Ukraine increased foreign exchange spending on imports of coal and anthracite, compared to the same period last year, by 31% – to $ 2.068 billion.
The largest suppliers were Russia, the USA and Kazakhstan.
Now coal supplies from Kazakhstan do not occur at all due to the blocking of railways by Russia, and imports from Russia are limited.
In December, coal was brought to Ukraine by sea from the United States, Australia and Colombia, with a total volume of 650 thousand tons.
Protests in Kazakhstan:
- In Kazakhstan since January 2 protests are taking place… People took to the streets due to the rise in the price of liquefied gas. Citizens demand the resignation of the president, the government and oppose corruption.
- During the rallies, law enforcement officers use force against the protesters, hundreds of people were detained.
- In connection with the protest actions, the country’s President Kassym Zhomart Tokayev accepted the resignation of the government. He decided to transfer the interim duties of prime minister to Alikhan Smailov.
- In the capital of the country Nur-Sultan, Almaty, Almaty and Mangystau regions from 5 to 19 January declared a state of emergency.
- In connection with the protests, the Foreign Ministry advised the Ukrainians refrain from visiting Kazakhstan.
- On January 5, 2022, the President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev announced that Nursultan Nazarbayev is more not chairman Security Council of Kazakhstan.
