Coahuila Governor Announces Reprinting of Controversial Free Textbooks

This Wednesday, August 30, at a delivery event for school supplies, uniforms, and shoes in Piedras Negras, the governor of CoahuilaMiguel Ángel Riquelme, announced that the state will reprint the free textbooks due to their controversy.

Riquelme mentioned that Francisco Saracho, Secretary of Education, could not attend the delivery because he stayed in Saltillo working “on something that concerns all of us, which is the solution to the delivery of textbooks.”

The president informed that at the request of the mothers and fathers of the family, an attempt has been made to resolve the problem through legal and economic means, so that in the next few hours a press conference will be held where Francisco Saracho will announce the decision that the State Government took in this regard.

“Don’t be scared, it’s still the same. We are going to replace the material and we are also on the side of the teachers who need this tool to work with the girls, boys and our young people”, she said.

Likewise, Riquelme expressed that dialogue has been held with the three union expressions so that this tool is carried out as soon as possible and reiterated that the announcement will be made in the next few hours.

He announced that the Government of Coahuila will deliver approximately 1,243,000 primary and secondary books for all subjects, of which 874,000 are for students from first to sixth grade from the “Coahuila Educa” collection, with mathematics content. and Spanish, made with their own resources.

Additionally, 368 thousand copies will be added for secondary school students of the 16 subjects of the current and authorized curricula, such as Spanish, mathematics, biology, geography and ethics, including books for telesecundaria students, which are estimated to be delivered in about weeks.

After the event, Governor Miguel Riquelme revealed in an interview that they are closing the contract for the reprint. When asked about the amount of the investment, he indicated that, although the final total is not available, it is estimated that it will be an amount of 72 million pesos.

Said budget, he indicated, a part was granted to Sedu to be used during the 2023-2024 school year and the rest was destined for printing some books that were not made this year.
